Essex Book Festival’s PLACE Weekend comes to Firstsite.

This weekend Firstsite hosts Essex Book Festival’s PLACE weekend, welcoming an intriguing mix of authors, artists, poets and storytellers through our doors, including award-winning novelists Sarah Perry and A L Kennedy, and internationally acclaimed artist Maggi Hambling.

A celebration of Essex Heritage and history, interwoven with an exploration of home and belonging, PLACE invites everyone to embark on a fascinating literary pilgrimage. From contemporary Syria to ancient Camulodunom, the weekend includes a Roman Wall walk, author readings and talks, writing workshops, discussions and drop-in fun family events.

We also have our first Sumi Ink Club at Firstsite, where everyone is invited to come along and create a community mural. All ages, all humans, all styles, all welcome – no artistic experience necessary (anyone can doodle!)
