Improve your knitting skills under the guidance of artist Clare Sams. Expand your horizons, learn more advanced techniques and explore knitting with chunky yarns.
The sessions will work at a pace that suits your needs and experience. The focus will be on building confidence in knitting techniques, understanding terminology and encouraging creativity.
These sessions can be taken as a course or as separate stand-alone classes.
These workshops are suitable for ages 16+. Plant based and sustainable materials provided. Feel free to bring your own projects for help and advice.
22 Oct – Quick knit mitts
Explore knit and purl stitches to craft ribbed wrist warmers in chunky yarn to keep your hands warm in winter.
19 Nov – Ties and sash belts
Study the process of combining knit and purl stitches to create texture, then knit either a neck tie or a sash belt.
10 Dec – Festive wreath
Learn how to knit textured tubes to make a wreath, then craft sprigs of festive holly and red berries to add a splash of seasonal colour.
About the artist
Clare Sams has a proven track record of delivering engaging and inclusive arts activities for all ages and abilities, working to create collaborative or individual artistic projects within schools and community settings. Clare has experience working with participants with additional needs including vulnerable adults, autism and hearing impaired.
Her practice is within the realm of textiles, creating two-dimensional artworks and three-dimensional soft sculptures using plant based and sustainable materials. Clare is a specialist in hand knitting, crochet, embroidery and weave.
Previous clients include Firstsite, University of Essex, Kings College London, Kew Royal Botanical Gardens, and Central Saint Martins’ college of Art and Design.
