With the help of local artist Gee Vaucher, who currently has a retrospective of her work showing at the gallery and has designed a banner especially for the event, they will recreate the type of kitchen in which food is traditionally prepared in Syria.

The café will run from the restaurant at the back of the Firstsite building, offering eat-in and take-away food. Live music will be provided by musician Ribar Mousa Sulaima, with all proceeds from the sale of the food will go back to Refugee Action.

Says Firstsite Director Sally Shaw:

Along with the Minories, we’re delighted to be hosting our first Christmas Maker’s Market, where local producers, artisans and artists will be bringing the very best that the region has to offer. And we are particularly delighted that the Syrian families, which Colchester began welcoming so warmly two years ago, are participating in this event.

Sunday 4th December at Firstsite only
