Arts Council Collection 25th September 2019

Arts Council Collection

The Arts Council Collection is the most widely circulated national loan collection of modern and contemporary British art in the world. There are over 8,000 works in the Collection, including paintings, sculpture, original works on paper, prints and moving image.

In March 2019, Firstsite became an Arts Council Collection National Partner for 2019-22, alongside Sunderland Culture and The Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange.

Throughout the partnership we will be working with community leaders to challenge the status quo, and ensure we truly are ‘for’ and ‘of’ the British public. So, for the next three years, every exhibition and project we produce as part of this programme will be co-authored by people who do not currently have a formal role within the gallery team, but who play a vital part in the community of Colchester and East Anglia; people whose circumstances and ideas should be understood by everyone, for us to be in a better position to positively change the world around us.
