Jafar Panahi – still under house arrest and banned from filmmaking – follows up Taxi Tehran with another powerful and mischievous statement on the importance of making art.

3 Faces begins with a desperate video message from an actor. Panahi heads off with fellow actor Behnaz Jafari (both playing themselves) to find her. We are taken on a tour of Iran, a panorama that slowly builds a portrait of the difficulty of female actors living in a patriarchal society.

Humane and thoughtful, this is nonetheless a powerful reproach to forces that censor and control.

“With “3 Faces,” the caged Panahi is determined to sing someone else’s song, and in times like these, such generosity of spirit is its own quietly fierce act of cinematic defiance.” – Variety

“Charming Iranian cinema at its purest.” – The Hollywood Reporter
