Muriel, a young social outcast in Australia, steals money from her parents to finance a vacation where she hopes to find happiness, and perhaps love in Muriel’s Wedding.

Collette plays the eponymous Muriel, a lonely teenager who is bullied by a gang of mean girls in her provincial hometown of Porpoise Spit.

Her family is complete ruin with selfish siblings, a depressed mother and crooked cheating father.

But this doesn’t dappen her spirits much as her obsession with Abba and the dream of getting married comforts her.

So when she gets the chance she steals funds from her father and reinvents herself in Sydney with her best mate and goes looking for a grand wedding. Things however, does not go as planned with Muriel’s Wedding.

‘Brilliantly led by Collette, PJ Hogan’s 1994 story of a lovable loser was the feelgood sensation that rescued the band’s reputation – how can you resist it?’ The Guardian ★★★★★
