Lissy enjoys husband Gerd’s deterioration in a home. Her joy is temporary as her health rapidly declines in Dying.

Lissy is now dying from cancer. She also has a bowel condition which renders her incontinent and unable to care for her husband who has dementia.

This leads to a family crisis with her son, Tom, who inherited her emotional coldness and her daughter, Ellen who is frequently in a drunk or hangover state.

Both children suffer from personal and career difficulties as well.

However, with Tom’s love of music as an orchestra conductor, Ellen’s marvellous singing voice and Lissy’s accordion playing the music may work to bring things together…or not.

‘Matthias Glasner’s epic is a black comedy of Franzenesque family dysfunction; maybe not profound exactly but terrifically watchable and entertaining. ‘ – The Guardian ★★★★☆
