Walk, Talk & Draw

Sunday 29 March 2026

Led by local artist Tina Bullen join us for Walk, Talk & Draw, a relaxed and social workshop blending gentle walking, creative exploration and opportunities to meet new people.

Our Walk, Talk & Draw combines a guided walk through Colchester’s Castle Park with on-the-spot observation, photography and drawing.

The session will begin at Firstsite before moving outdoors to view shapes, textures and scenes that catch the eye. Phone cameras will be used to to collect visual references.

After the observation walk, you will be guided by your tutor to turn your finds into drawings. Tina will offer guidance on composition, tone, accuracy and developing your own artistic style.

Basic materials provided. Please bring a phone with a camera for taking photos during the walk.

Food and drink is also available for purchase throughout the session from our cafes. This workshop is most suitable for ages 18+.

What is observational drawing?

Observational drawing is the practice of sketching from real-life subjects, focusing on what you see rather than drawing from imagination.

It encourages a deeper connection to your surroundings, helping you notice details in light, texture, form and composition that often go unnoticed in daily life.

About your tutor

Tina Bullen is from Colchester and describes herself as an ‘artist who also teaches’. Art for Tina is a vehicle; a vehicle for expression, connection and joy.

Her work is strongly rooted within nature and her environment. She works in many mediums but mainly in oils, pastels, acrylics and pen.
