Opening Celebration | Sue Webster: Birth of an Icon

Friday 30 January 2026

Galleries

Join us for a special evening event to celebrate the opening of ‘Birth of an Icon’, Sue Webster’s first solo exhibition at Firstsite!

Be among the very first to experience this major new show, which invites you into the world of Sue Webster – charting her life from teenage rebellion to motherhood, and from her early artistic career to the emergence of her solo voice.

Through defaced leather jackets, memorabilia, self-portraits, video, and installation, journey through a raw, funny, and personal exploration of art, identity, and growing up different.

Join us for an evening of art, conversation, and reflection:
  • Speeches will begin at 7pm.
  • Our fully licensed bar will be open throughout the evening.
  • Explore all our current exhibitions, browse the shop, and visit the cinema.
  • No booking required. Everyone welcome.
