‘My name is not Refugee’ is an Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme Exhibition that offers a new perspective on life in Britain, featuring artworks chosen by a group of refugees and asylum seekers living in Colchester.

This film documents Refugee Action clients and friends coming together over the first lockdown and being supported by ‘Together We Grow CIC’ in growing their own food.

To coincide with ‘My name is not refugee’, we have installed raised beds for growing vegetables on the balcony outside our restaurant — a new venture for our collaborative journey of growing and learning together with our community.

Together We Grow CIC promotes the social and emotional wellbeing of asylum seekers and refugees in the local area, through activities such as gardening and food growing. Find out more at www.togetherwegrowcic.co.uk.

‘My name is not Refugee’ is the fourth exhibition by Firstsite as part of the Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme, which will continue into 2022.
