Impressionist Still Life Painting

Saturday 21 March 2026

Explore expressive painting through the vibrant world of Impressionism in our Impressionist Still Life Painting workshop, inspired by artists such as Claude Monet, Georges Seurat and Paul Cézanne.

Through this workshop, discover how colour, light and mark making can transform a simple still life into a dynamic and personal artwork.

This session introduces the key ideas behind Impressionism, Neo Impressionism, Pointillism and Post Impressionism. There will be a short overview on how these movements reshaped painting through bold experimentation and close observation as well as how these can be used today!

With demonstrations, individual exploration and guidance from your tutor, you will then learn how to loosen your technique and use gouache to create energetic layers of colour and texture.

By the end of the Impressionist Still Life Painting workshop, each attendee will complete a 30 x 40 cm painting and gain practical skills to develop their practice.

Basic materials provided. Food and drink is also available for purchase throughout the session from our cafes. This workshop is suitable for ages 18+.

What Is Impressionist Painting?

Impressionist painting is a style that focuses on capturing the feeling of a moment using visible brushstrokes, vibrant colour and attention to light.

Rather than concentrating on fine detail, Impressionist artists work quickly and intuitively, creating artworks that feel lively, atmospheric and immediate.

Related movements such as Neo Impressionism and Pointillism use dots or short marks of colour to create shimmering optical effects, opening up playful and experimental approaches to painting.
