Linocut Day: Embracing Mistakes In Printmaking
Sunday 23 August 2026
Explore the creative possibilities of linocut printmaking in this experimental workshop focused on process, spontaneity, and creative risk-taking.
Through playful mark-making and hands-on printing techniques, you will learn how unexpected results and so-called “mistakes” can become valuable starting points for expressive and original prints.
Beginning with exploratory printing exercises, participants will experiment with techniques such as ghost printing, mis-registration, over-inking, and under-inking to discover the visual potential of unpredictable outcomes.
The workshop will also encourage collaborative experimentation, using shared misprints and accidental marks as inspiration for new ideas and compositions.
Participants will then develop and carve their own lino block, building confidence through layering, reworking, and intuitive decision-making.
Emphasis will be placed on curiosity, resilience, and embracing imperfection as part of the creative process.
Suitable for beginners and those with some printmaking experience, this workshop is ideal for anyone interested in experimental printmaking, creative exploration, and contemporary approaches to lino printing.
Participants will leave with a series of unique prints and a carved lino block.
Basic materials provided. Food and drink is also available for purchase throughout the session from our cafés.
This workshop is suitable for ages 16+.

What is linocut printmaking?
Linocut printmaking is a relief printing technique where designs are carved into lino before being inked and pressed onto paper or fabric.
Known for its bold marks and graphic qualities, linocut can be both precise and experimental, offering endless opportunities for layering, texture, and variation.
About your tutor
Natasha Davis is a self-taught artist printmaker, living and working in Essex, specialising in linocut prints.
Each print begins as a meditative carving, often inspired by the lives, lore and landscapes around her. Her favourite part of printmaking is the rhythmic process of cutting lino and how it offers a calming escape.
She also runs linocut workshops in Essex, sharing the joy of printmaking with others.
Watching people discover the magic of printmaking is incredibly rewarding and it inspires her to keep exploring new techniques and stories through her own work.
Through her prints, Natasha hopes to capture people’s imagination. She loves weaving storytelling elements into her pieces, shaped by her background as a creative writing graduate, and she tries to let those narrative threads guide each piece.
