Alpha is an intimate and haunting drama from filmmaker Julia Ducournau, exploring illness, family bonds and the weight of grief.

The story centres on a teenager known as Alpha, whose life is abruptly disrupted after she is believed to have contracted a mysterious and fatal condition. As the disease progresses, those affected slowly transform into marble-like figures, a striking metaphor for the way memories of loved ones become fixed in time.

Alpha’s relationships form the emotional core of the film. Her mother, a dedicated doctor, is forced to confront the return of a crisis she once fought on the medical frontline.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Alpha’s uncle Amin, battling his own struggles with addiction, adds another layer of vulnerability and tenderness to the household.
