Artist Sheryl Jenkins led a series of workshops with YAK in Spring 2022.  The sessions offered participants a mix of creative activities to produce an animated film which celebrates their involvement in the Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme.

You can watch the film below

The film has been co-created with young people from the Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme in Sunderland Culture and Newlyn and the Exchange.

Sheryl gathered testimonies from young people who took part in the project (which led to the exhibition House Share at Firstsite) along with those who were new to YAK to capture responses to the experience of being involved, the impact that the project has had, what has been learnt through taking part, and what the group would like to do next.

About Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme 2019- 2022

Firstsite was one of the galleries chosen  as part of the second round of The Arts Council Collections National Partners Programme, which ran in 2019 – 2022. Other partners selected include Sunderland Culture in Tyne and Wear, and The Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange in Cornwall.

Funded by the National Lottery, the programme aims to build a deeper relationship with regional audiences by building a UK-wide network across regional partners, connecting local visitors to their national collection. Each venue presented and curated exhibitions drawn from their collection.
