Get making during our Holiday Fun: Make session with a variety of free creative activities at Firstsite this February.

Most suitable for those aged 4 – 11 yrs, but all ages welcome.

Drop-in anytime between 10am – 2:30pm from Tuesday to Saturday to take part.

No need to book for our Make sessions.

Adults required to stay.

 

Session Activities 
Sat 14 Feb: Springtime Suncatchers – Natalie Samoilova

Come and join artist Natalie Samoilova for this relaxing and creative workshop full of light and colour where you will use tissue paper to create your own vibrant suncatchers.

Tue 17 Feb: Are You the Next Banksy? – Millicent Glasgow and Via Thyme @YAK

Our Young Art Kommunity artists Millicent Glasgow and Via Thyme will be inspiring you to get creative with paint in this FREE workshop to produce your very own masterpiece on the back of a CD! Finished artworks can be taken home OR entered into the city-wide competition. Competition entry costs £2.

Wed 18 Feb: DIY Patch Badge Making – Freya Gascoyne

Join artist Freya Gascoyne to create exciting patches and badges, inspired by Sue Webster’s new exhibition and DIY punk culture! Take these home to add to your clothes, bags and hats, or bring an item in to embellish in the workshop!

Thu 19 Feb: Varieties – Mary Pullen Deacon

Artist Mary Pullen Deacon will help you create a series of drawings to illustrate a ‘variety’ of your choice. Taking inspiration from the hundreds of apple varieties in our Into the Orchard exhibition, you will then turn your artworks into an Artist’s Book to take home and treasure.

Fri 20 Feb: Chinese New Year Origami – Lu Yu

Join artist Lu Yu to get creative and celebrate the Year of the Horse. Learn to fold your own lucky origami horse and cherry blossom—classic symbols of Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival. We’ll also have plenty of festive colouring activities available.

Sat 21 Feb: Handmade Signs – Elaine Tribley 

Join Elaine Tribley for a fun, creative workshop making handmade signs to cheer on runners in the Colchester Half Marathon. We’ll design colourful, encouraging messages to help motivate participants and show them some local love on race day.

 

Our Holiday Fun activities are for families facing economic challenges or who require additional support during the school holidays, including those that qualify for benefits-based free school meals.

Holiday Fun is designed in partnership with African Families in the UK, Bangladeshi Women’s Association Essex, and Level Best Enterprises.

Please note there is no parking available at Firstsite, however there are car parks nearby, and Colchester Town Centre is well serviced by public transport. How to get here
