Romanian Film Festival Screening: Traffic + Q&A

Saturday 29 November 2025

Premiering in the UK, the Romanian Film Festival Screening: Traffic + Q&A hosts Traffic!

Based on a true story, Traffic depicts a group of Romanian immigrants in the Netherlands.

As they decide to stage a heist that will make the locals notice them, they go from unwanted second-class citizens to very much wanted criminals!

This is a gripping social thriller that examines the moral ambiguities of human trafficking, corruption, and survival in contemporary Europe. The film questions whether a painting has the same value as a man’s life.

The oblique angle approach, seen from the point of view of the protagonists of a heist and what the establishment’s reaction is – rather than the usual trope of following the investigative team.

Traffic is Romania’s official Academy Awards entry! The film is written by Palme d’Or–winning filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, directed by rising talent Teodora Ana Mihai and starring César-winning French Romanian actress Anamaria Vartolomei.

There will be a Q&A following this screening with special guests to be announced soon!

As the first screening of the festival, there will also be celebrations on various aspects of Romanian culture including:

  • Romanian & English Storytelling Language Workshop run by Daniela Tudose from Ipswich Library. Recommended for ages 2-4.
  • Drama Workshop run by Romanian British Actress Andreea Tudose. Recommended for ages 13-18.
  • Queen Street Art School Student Exhibition
