John Ball was a radical priest from Colchester and one of the most influential leaders of the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381. He attacked the feudal order and argued that all people were created equal. His incendiary sermons helped galvanise rebels across Essex and Kent, who rose up against oppressive taxes, serfdom, and corrupt officials. After the revolt collapsed, Ball was captured, tried for treason, and executed in London — his egalitarian vision endures as one of the most powerful political ideas to emerge from medieval England.

Who are Sports Banger?

Sports Banger, is a genre-defying, London-based clothing brand and rag-tag fashion collective run by Jonny Banger, who interrogates British pop culture, fashion, class, and politics through the subversion and (mis)appropriation of branding.

Vogue has called their off-schedule runway shows ‘arguably the most exciting of London Fashion Week’. In 2023, Sports Banger celebrated 10 years with the book Sports Banger: Lifestyles of the Poor, Rich and Famous (Thames & Hudson)

Jonny Banger is an artist, raver and the founder of Sports Banger, a London-based clothing brand and rag-tag collective. In 2020, Jonny exhibited over 200 government letters defaced by kids and young people from across the UK at London’s Foundling Museum (where he was made a Fellow later that year) and received a Haringey Heroes Award from the Mayor of Haringey for his work. Sports Banger won the Innovation & Excellence Award at DJ Magazine’s Best of British Awards 2020. Jonny has had work exhibited at the London College of Fashion, the Museum of Applied Art (Vienna) and in other independent venues.
