Join British African-Caribbean conceptual artist and activist, Elsa James, for an online conversation that will explore her artworks ‘Black Girl Essex: Here We Come, Look We Here’ and ‘The Black Essex Flag’, with a focus on her compulsion to disrupt the white Essex narrative.
Elsa was the first artist invited to have a residency within Firstsite’s ‘Living Room’ alongside her solo exhibition ‘Black Girl Essex’, and was one of the curators for ‘Super Black’, Firstsite’s Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme exhibition led by Essex’s black community.
She will be joined by Sepake Angiama, the Artistic Director of the Institute for International Visual Arts (Iniva), London, and Dr. Jon Blackwood, a curator, lecturer and writer specialising in contemporary art and activism.
